Founding History

A Conversation That Changed Everything

“Similar to other African nations, Rwanda heavily relied on medical imports — resulting in exorbitant medication costs and delivery delays of up to three months.”

Irebe Biotech Ltd. was founded by two brothers, Mr. Eric Uzabakiriho and Mr. Darius Uzabakiriho. In 2021, Eric participated in a residential program organized by the JASIRI TALENT INVESTOR PROGRAM, aimed at nurturing future young innovators.

During one evening, Darius brought to Eric’s attention the critical shortage of medicines experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic — a challenge with deeper roots across LMICs. It was during this conversation that they resolved to tackle this challenge by establishing Irebe Biotech.

Today, Irebe Biotech operates as a pharmaceutical manufacturing and research company committed to breaking the cycle of Africa’s reliance on imported medicines.

Mr. Eric Uzabakiriho

Mr. Eric Uzabakiriho holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Birmingham and a Master’s degree from the University of Exeter. With a wealth of experience in leading substantial projects — including gold mining on an industrial scale, gemstone mining, and base metals — Eric brings innovation and proactive problem-solving to Irebe Biotech.

COO & Co-Founder

Mr. Darius Uzabakiriho

Darius is an accomplished Pharmaceutical Scientist with over a decade of extensive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation. Driven by an unwavering passion for pioneering advancements in healthcare through innovative research and development, he catalyses transformative progress in the pharmaceutical landscape.
